Johanna Frank is a Canadian author based in Southern Ontario, where she lives with her husband, and delights in time with her children and grandchildren. I recall my desire to write novels quite vividly. With an hour-long commute to and from work each day, I had plenty of time to shift my thoughts from professional matters to those waiting for me at home. Yet more often than not, my mind drifted elsewhere—to the creation of characters and the shaping of an imagined, allegorical world that had lived within me for as long as I could remember.
Can you share the most interesting story that occurred to you in the course of your career?
A haunting vision—literally. It startled me at first, but in time it led to something remarkable. I uncovered a truth about my past—or rather, my ancestor’s past—and, in turn, something profound about my eternal future. (That story is in this new release – The Voice I Couldn’t Ignore).
What was the biggest challenge you faced in your journey to becoming an author?
First – believing in myself that I could do it. Second – the marketing, finding my people, and then the attainment of reviews.
What is the main empowering lesson you want your readers to take away after finishing your book?
It’s a deeply personal experience I share in this book, and the purpose boils down to a simple message. God communicates in many ways. Often, he even catches us off guard. It’s when we crawl into that upper room inside ourselves that we can hear what he wants us to hear, see what he wants us to see. (Sometimes he allows things in our lives to push us into that upper room).
What is the one habit you believe contributed the most to you becoming a great writer?
Project management. I’d done a fair amount of project management throughout my business career, and that skill—paired with the ability to envision the desired outcome—proved to be one of the most valuable assets in getting the job done.
You are a person of enormous influence. If you could start a movement that would bring the most amount of good to the most amount of people, what would that be?
Believe and seek. Simple as that.
