I have always been a reader, from a very young age. Books always fascinated me and I admired the ability of authors to create imaginary worlds that I could visit. It took me a long time, but finally after many tries and detours I managed to publish my first book almost 15 years ago. And I have never stopped.
Your latest book, Christmas in Newfoundland 3, centers around Christmas traditions, old and new from Sgt. Windflower and his family and friends. How did you come up with this idea?
I love Christmas. Everything about it and I have a lot of great memories that I wanted to share with others. It felt natural to extend that opportunity to the characters in the Sgt. Windflower Mystery series.
Can you tell us about the main character?
Winston Windflower is an RCMP officer, a Canadian Mountie, who happens to be a Cree from Northern Alberta. He gets stationed in a small town in Newfoundland on the east coast of Canada. He falls in love with Grand Bank and then falls in love with a woman who ends up becoming his wife.
Can you tell us about the other characters in the book?
Sheila Hillier is Windflower’s wife and the anchor of his life. His best friend Eddie Tizzard is another RCMP officer who loves Windflower, but may love eating even more.
What is the very first line of your book?
Stella was almost six and having a wonderful December with her parents and her younger sister, Amelia Louise, in St. John’s, Newfoundland. And the big day was still ahead.
What is the main reason people should read your book?
If you like Christmas, you should read this book. If you love Christmas, you have to read this book and give it to someone else. It is my gift to the world and I hope people will share it with each other.
You are a person of enormous influence. If you could start a movement that would bring the most amount of good to the most amount of people, what would that be?
I think I would like to ask everyone to do one kind thing for someone else every day. Let’s build a kindness movement. The Dalai Lama says “ Whenever possible, be kind. And it’s always possible.”
