A
Day in the Life is Literarily Speaking’s newest feature. Here we get a
glimpse into our favorite author’s day-to-day life! Today’s guest is Eva Mackenzie, author of the domestic romantic suspense novel, Buried In My Past.
My
good morning usually starts at five am.
First things first, java, and lots of it. I love my morning coffee. I usually
begin my writing day with anything creative; drafting, rewriting, or creative
marketing things. I am currently editing a phycological thriller that’s
set to release in August and drafting a suspense that will publish in early
2021. My brain works better with ideas in the morning than in the evening when
my mind wanders. When my kiddos wake, I take care of all things kids until nap
time…Thank goodness for nap time. This is when I usually do edits or marketing
projects. I use a Kanban board that helps me keep up with all the different
things I have going on.
In
addition to Buried in My Past, I am working on two more book; one in the
drafting stage and another going to my editor. I like to keep my work in
progress rotating though the different writing stages to give my creativity
(drafting) or my logical (editing) brain a rest. I love switching back and
forth.
Fast
forward to bedtime for kids. I work on anything I haven’t finished that has a
deadline approaching. Sometimes I get to bed early, but not usually. And I love
to end the day reading a book.
I
enjoy it all. There isn’t anything I will avoid for too long, although I don’t
like taking care of technical stuff that much. I usually beg help from my
husband because he is much better with tech than I am.
It
may seem hectic, but there is nothing I would rather do. It’s a ton of
work, but when I read my book for the last time (which is usually the tenth
time I’ve read it), I think to myself ‘I just did that’.

About the Book:
Jamie Kendal sees life through the bottom of a bottle. After surviving assault and betrayal, she is forced back to her hometown to care for her mother. Not long after her return, she’s plagued by terrifying slivers of memories from the night her twin brother disappeared forever…
Unearthing new evidence, she’s shocked to learn she’d been found wandering in the woods that same night—covered in blood. More than one person from her past hid the haunting truth that’s bubbling to the surface. The deeper she digs into the horrors from her past, the more she fears almost anyone could be a killer, including Jamie herself.
Can Jamie expose what happened that night, or will she join her missing brother?
