5 Things You Should Know About 35 Miles From Shore: The Ditching and Rescue of ALM Flight 980

It happened fifty years ago this May

Many of the people in this story are still alive

I have written a screenplay adaptation

I am working on a possible documentary about this story

The plane has not been seen since it slipped beneath the waves some fifty years ago, but I know where it is.

On May 2, 1970, a DC-9 jet departed New York’s JFK international airport en route to the tropical island of St. Maarten. The flight ended four hours and thirty-four minutes later in the shark-infested waters of the Caribbean. The subsequent rescue of survivors involved the Coast Guard, Navy, and Marines. In this gripping account of that fateful day, author Emilio Corsetti puts the reader inside the cabin, the cockpit, and the rescue helicopters as the crews struggle against the weather to rescue the survivors who have only their life vests and a lone escape chute to keep them afloat.

Happy Mother's Day & My Latest Farmhouse Find

May 10, 2020 0 Comments

Just wanted to pop in and wish all you mothers (as well as fur-baby mothers!) a happy Mother's Day and also to catch up a bit on what's going on in my neck of the woods.

See that picture up there? I'm redoing the upstairs bathroom. It's a reeeeally small room but it's the one I take showers in and I wanted to give it some farmhouse ambiance. I had the sea coast mermaid thing going on in there so this is a breath of fresh air.

I accidentally signed up for Kindle Unlimited and figured what the heck I'll keep it for a month, then cancel if I don't need it. That's how I came about downloading Dating Advice for Women. It's a short little book but is packed with dating advice. It showed me how to find someone with acceptable flaws - that's a good one. It listed various dating mistakes and filled me in with answers to such questions as, "Should I get serious?" It told me ways to find out if the guy was on the same page as you are and how it was so important for that.

Overall, I read the book in about 15 minutes so again it's a short book if you're short on time. Being as I also write relationship advice but centering on the soul mate relationship primarily, I can say I enjoyed it. I love to find out how others approach relationship problems. The author did a great job.

Ten Things You Might Not Know About MaryAnn Kempher and Mocha, Moonlight and Murder

1 Before writing my first book, I’d never written anything beyond school work.
2 My first book, Mocha, Moonlight, and Murder, took me nearly five years to write and get published.
3 My first book is a romantic suspense, but books two through seven are mysteries.
4 I don’t like to write violence or profanity, so have very little in my books.
5 I was in the Air Force for twenty years. Before joining, I lived in Reno Nevada, where my books (except book two) are set.
6 My second book is set on a cruise.
7 I lived in Korea for a year where I learned to love sautéed squid.
8 I’m addicted to Starbucks. For a while I was going six or seven days a week, now I go once or twice.
9 Though Mocha, Moonlight, and Murder is considered a romantic/suspense, it would be more accurate to call it a romantic comedy, with a murder mystery.
10 My books can be read out of order, but you will enjoy them more if you read them in order. A lot of the same characters are in all the books, so they will become like family to you.

About the Author
For many years, MaryAnn Kempher lived in Reno Nevada where most of her stories are set. Her books are an entertaining mix of mystery and humor. She lives in the Tampa Florida area with her husband, two children, and a very snooty Chorkie.

BOOK BLURB:

One night, 28-year-old, Katherine O’Brian, decides to walk to an all-night diner. The only problem? It’s midnight, but Katherine lives in Reno Nevada, a city that never sleeps; she can clearly see the diner’s lights in the distance. It’s no big deal, until she passes someone’s garage where a man is loading a dead body into the trunk of his car.

And now, she’s in trouble. She outran the man that night, and while she has no idea who he is, he knows who she is. And he wants her dead.

As if attempts on her life weren’t stressful enough, Katherine has gone back to college. She’s determined to finally finish her degree, but her lab partner is driving her crazy. He’s hot, but annoying. And she’s not sure which she wants more—a night of mad, passionate sex or a new lab partner. It varies from day to day.

Will Katherine give in to her lust for her partner or will she give in to her desire to throttle him? If she’s in the ground before graduation, it won’t matter.

Not your typical romance, not your typical mystery.
